Who Owns the Next Step?

I’ve sat through plenty of meetings where everyone agreed on the problem, the solution, and what needed to happen next. Then everyone went back to work.

A week later, here we were, having the same conversation.

It’s easy to confuse agreement with action and progress. But a good conversation only matters if something changes afterward.

I’ve found that three simple questions can make a difference:

  1. What needs to happen?

  2. Who owns it?

  3. When will it be done?

Nothing complicated. No new software or another meeting on the calendar.

Just simple ownership and follow-through.

The Two-Minute Warning

The next time you wrap up a meeting, take the last two minutes to make sure everyone knows what happens next, who owns what, and when an action item will be completed.

You might be surprised how much time that saves, how many problems it prevents, and how much more your team gets done.

Agreement is a good start. Follow-through is what moves business forward.
